Do I need German for a research role?+
No. Working language at ISTA is English. We offer free German classes if you want to learn — useful outside work, never required at it.
What does the salary really cover in Austria?+
Salaries are 14-month gross. They sit at the upper end of the Austrian collective agreement for scientific staff. The benefits handbook lays out the full net picture per role.
Is the campus really 15 minutes from Vienna?+
Yes — 15 min by free shuttle from U4 Heiligenstadt, every 30 min. There are also frequent ÖV connections; commuting is fully reimbursed at the standard rate.
What about visas?+
Our welcome office walks you through Red-White-Red Card or EU Blue Card. We've onboarded scientists from over 80 countries.
